Fun Crafts for the Preteens in Your Life

It seems that keeping preteens and teenagers active and engaged has never been more difficult. Between the time they spend listening to music, watching videos and playing games, the simple joys of creating crafts can easily get lost in the shuffle. It is important, however, for parents to take the time to engage their preteens in a number of family activities, and the autumn is a great time to spend time creating a number of fun and interesting craft projects

There are a number of excellent and fun fall projects that the whole family can enjoy, and there are many craft projects that are designed specifically to appeal to the preteen in your life. One of these projects is the creation of a fragrant and attractive pot pourri hanger. These practical little items can be attached to coat hangers, where they can make the closet, and even the room, smell great. This idea, of course, will appeal to the parents as well.

In order to create this potpourri delight, simply combine a half cup of unsweetened applesauce and a cup of white glue. Next add a cup of cinnamon and a AM cup of ground cloves Finally, add a cup of water to make an easy to work with dough. If the dough is too dry, slowly add more water, one teaspoon at a time.

Take a sheet of waxed paper and sprinkle it liberally with cinnamon, then pat out the dough to a thickness of about A% inch, using small cookie cutters to cut the dough into whimsical shapes. Poke holes in the dough using a regular drinking straw, and bake the dough at about 225 degrees Fahrenheit for approximately three hours Turn the oven off and allow the dough to stand in the oven overnight, keeping the oven light on to dry the dough completely. The holes you punched in the dough can be used to hang these potpourri ornaments on doorknobs, coat hangers or anywhere else that could use a little extra scent. These fragrant ornaments also make a great addition to the Thanksgiving day table, and great party favors as well.

There are of course plenty of other great ways to keep the preteens in your life entertained. Making a great potpourri is only one idea. Chances are you will be able to think of many other ideas, all tailored to the specific tastes of the kids in your life.
